We had so much fun on this project!
Here’s what we started with:
This old beat up door took about 4 coats of this gorgeous yellow. (Cairo Gold – Origins™ by Benjamin Moore®)
Then we used a mix of our black finishing wax & Minwax finishing wax dark (which is a nice complimentary brown) to pop all of the details on the door. (US link) We sealed the door with ten tonnes (slight exaggeration) of spray clear coat from Krylon. (matte finish is what we usually use)
I think it turned out SO cute!
This vacancy / no vacancy sign that hangs from the painted black door knob is so cute! We made it a little rustic by sanding up the edges and rubbing some of our handmade black finishing wax onto the bare wood. We drilled two holes through the top for the sign to be hung on twine. 🙂
For the larger main sign we strapped 7 boards cut the same length together and drilled it straight into the door.
Here’s the before & after:
Overall we loved working on this project & more yellow may make it’s way into our future! My Nana (Sherida’s Mom) would paint everything yellow! ^_^ That’s one of my strongest memories of her. Her entire kitchen, all of the furniture, decor & accents were painted yellow. ❤
UPDATE: The yellow door was stolen! 😦 #FindTheYellowDoor
